I am delighted to share the toys that have shown us what an elated and enthusiastic three-year-old girl looks like.
You will notice that most of these toys are not “crunchy”. They are plastic.
I do think they have a very positive impact on my kid, and more kids to come. The toys will be passed on.
You may think that it’s still a bit of a problem – and look – I definitely get that.
I almost became one of those moms that did “wooden toys only”. Long story short, I didn’t.
Call me a silky mom if you want to. I did what was best for my family.
Consider the fact that these are not single-use plastics, and that they most definitely contribute to wonderful developmental strides.
Melissa & Doug Slice and Bake Wooden Christmas Cookie Play Food Set
This was a delightful Christmas gift from the lady we call Nana. Although she isn’t related to us, she is a very dear friend with a background in early childhood education. She has an eye for special toddler toys!
Let me tell you – Kate spent hours pretending to bake and serve cookies to us. You can remove the icing from the cookie and reattach it with Velcro for additional fun. There is a pretend knife and mitt, as well as a cylinder cookie container and cookie sheet. We used our imaginations and pretended the box it came in was the oven! (I sang the Jeopardy theme song before saying ‘ding’ to help Kate have a timeline for keeping the tray in the oven!)
This Christmas cookie toy will provide entertainment all seasons of the year.
Steiff 63893 Soft Cuddly Friends Starry Starfish Coral
Before Kate turned 3, she kept talking about a starfish that lived between the fridge and wall. Perhaps it was an imaginary friend? Our water heater on the other side of the wall had a random starfish sticker on it (still there – it feels wrong to remove it). So maybe that sparked the belief.
Well, Daddy had a fantastic idea. He decided that on Kate’s 3rd birthday, she would find a plush starfish in that spot she always talked about!
You can imagine the joy. This is one of our happiest memories! That starfish became her best bud for a long time.
It’s a unique and original gift that will be unlike anything else you give your child.
3 Wheeled Scooter for Kids – Stand & Cruise Child/Toddlers Toy Folding Kick Scooters w/Adjustable Height, Anti-Slip Deck, Flashing Wheel Lights, for Boys/Girls 2-12 Year Old
Another one where credit goes to Daddy. Kate had seen other kids on scooters at the park, and she wanted to ride them. Dad knew that Kate would be overjoyed to get a shiny new pink one!
The surprise and delight on her face should have been captured for an ad.
I really like the seat on this scooter which allows for a fun alternative riding experience. The lights on the wheels will make anyone feel like the cool kid on the block.
All kids need a scooter. Get yours the deluxe one. Get a helmet, too!
Kids Dream Bed Tent Twin Size – Deluxe Space Adventure & Dinosaur Island & Unicorn & Winter Wonderland Play Tents Boys Girls Pop up Tents Children Game Tent Magical Playhouse
This was an impulse buy at a toy store that was going out of business. We didn’t have a twin bed, but we imagined we could figure something out with it.
We know that every kid needs some kind of fort or hideout. This nifty thing does the trick, without the bars and hooks. You just fold it over like a rainbow and stick it between two things – in our case, a wall and a dresser with just the right gap.
Kate loves to chill in this unicorn tent. It’s so easy to move and put away, too.
You might give this tent a try as a ‘starter tent’ if you would rather not figure out all the pieces to a ‘real’ tent. It is perfect for three-year-olds!
Flower Garden Building Toy Educational Activity Stem Toys (130 PCS)
A lovely auntie gave Kate this amazing gift I was shocked I never knew about. Plastic flower gardens.
I can’t even with how cute these flowers are. Stop. It’s too cute.
My heart swells when I see my little girl creating a complex flower garden with all of the petals, stamens, and leaves. And it’s a real joy when she wants me to participate!
Whoever invented this thing is the real MVP, although I can’t help but wonder why it wasn’t invented much sooner??
The Marble Run – a classic that will always stand the test of time. Great for both girls and boys ages 3-7. If there are cousins visiting, this toy will work for everyone.
You won’t want to pass on the opportunity to help your little one construct a track that’s better than the last one.
It’s fun to put aside the emails and chores and just watch marbles go through twists and turns!
Uenjoy Play Birthday Cake Pretend Play Food Sets for Kids, Candles Fruit Dessert with Music & Light for Boy and Girls, 56-pc Accessories
A fantastic uncle and cousin found a similar tea cart with all the treats and cutlery a little girl needs for a proper tea party.
Tell me your three-year-old doesn’t need a teapot, a fancy cart, and pretend cupcakes. This is another one of those ‘no-brainers’.
Having a sweet little girl pour pretend tea for you is a bucket list item. You haven’t lived till you’ve seen a three-year-old feel the satisfaction of having a happy customer.
Buy the thing. Do the stuff.
While the following did not clock in as many hours of play, I could not resist the urge to share them.
Starxing Russian Nesting Dolls Matryoshka Wood Stacking Nested Set 7 Pieces Handmade Toys
OK, so this is not exactly what we have – but it’s pretty close. There is a wide variety of nesting dolls on the market, including animal versions.
I still remember seeing an old nesting doll at my Uncle Tom and Aunt Asen’s house when I was 8. They were very quick to give it to me when I showed interest. It may have been hand-crafted in Europe. That bundle of dolls captivated me, and it remained a special dresser decoration for a long time.
It felt good to pass it on to Kate. She loved putting all of the dolls together and then putting them all away. They were beautifully made, but the paint has faded over the years.
Nesting dolls are very special and unique gifts. One of those ‘can’t go wrong’ things.
Craft-tastic Sticker It Up! – Reusable Sticker Book for Kids – 650+ Repositionable Stickers Create Designs on 8 Scene Pages for Hours of Mess-Free, Screen-Free Fun – Animal Town Series
When Nana sent Kate sticker books, I had flashbacks (the good kind). I remembered how thrilled I was to get one at a similar age. Kate was entranced by hers, too.
This gift doesn’t last much longer than 15 minutes, but it packs a punch. Make it a stocking stuffer or a special thing for a visiting child.
I hope you enjoyed my list of awesome toys for a toddler girl!!
